Many pet owners assume that grooming small pets should be quick and easy, provided the pet is cooperative. However, this is frequently not true.

In reality, pet grooming is a time-consuming, physical, and stressful job that demands significant skill and years of experience to perform correctly.

For pet groomers to groom animals safely and as efficiently as possible, they need to organize their workdays.

This involves meticulously scheduling daily appointments.

Some pet groomers also include cat grooming in their services.

Due to the variety of dog and cat breeds and coat types, groomers must limit the number of pets they handle each day.

The duration of each grooming session varies based on several factors.

~The pet's breed

~The state of the coat

~The expectations or requests of the pet owners

~The pet's temperament

~The pet's peculiarities (particularly concerning its nails or with water during baths)

Various factors can cause a Pet Groomer to fall behind schedule and extend the time needed to groom your pet.

~ Clients arriving late for their appointments

~ Frequent phone calls from clients inquiring about their pets

~ Deliveries at the front door

~ A pet with severe matting

~ An aggressive or fearful pet

~ Pausing to clean up messes (pets not toilet trained)

Most pet groomers prefer not to keep pets away from their owners longer than necessary. On average, a pet groomer can groom up to five pets a day, depending on their skill and experience.

Pet groomers use sharp grooming tools on live animals, so gentle and meticulous grooming requires time and significant patience. Not all pets will remain still on the grooming table for extended periods. Therefore, a skilled and experienced groomer should recognize when the pet needs a break.

Most of the time, pets prefer to leave the table to enjoy playtime!

If you've ever questioned why pet groomers don't pick up the phone when you call, it's mainly because they're busy washing your pet, clipping their nails, or grooming their fur!

Therefore, sending a text is usually the more effective option.

When your Pet Groomer provides an estimated completion time for your pet, they are anticipating a day without disruptions. However, things don't always go as planned!

This is why many Pet Groomers request that you wait for their text message to inform you when your pet is ready for pickup.

Please avoid entering the front gate before the designated READY time.

In fact, doing so would make it nearly impossible for the groomer to finish your pet, as seeing you would excite the pet too much, leading it to climb all over you, thinking it's time to go home. The groomer wouldn't be able to complete their work under these circumstances.

Therefore, please be patient if your Groomer notifies you of a delay.

Groomers have various methods for organizing their schedules.

Some groomers prefer to have all pets arrive in the morning, allowing them to work continuously without interruptions to admit new pets.

Groomers using this approach typically keep the pets for most of the day.

The first pets are usually ready to be picked up between 2 and 4 pm.

This scheduling method is ideal for pet owners who need to leave their pets at the groomers all day while they are at work.

Some groomers arrange their appointments sporadically throughout the day.

This allows pets not to stay for the entire day.

Pet owners who prefer not to have their dogs away for too long should opt for a groomer who schedules in this manner.

If you're a pet owner who wants your pet groomed as quickly as possible, you should look for a groomer who handles only one dog at a time or a mobile groomer who will groom your pet right outside your home.

Be prepared to pay higher grooming fees for groomers who groom only one dog at a time and come to you in a mobile grooming van.

Since they groom only one dog at a time, they cannot groom many dogs in a day.

This results in higher grooming prices to cover their overhead.

There is also the convenience of them coming to you, along with the cost of fuel and other vehicle road and transport expenses.

Becoming a Pet Groomer or a Pet Daycare provider requires a unique kind of person.

They possess a deep love and care for animals.

They want to be there for your pets when you're unable to be.

They are committed to helping your pets look and feel their best.

Yet, they are only human.

They experience both good and bad days, when things may not go as planned.

So, be patient with your Groomer. They may make it look effortless, but what seems easy often isn't.

Groomers need pet owners to be completely open with them during the initial meeting and evaluation of the pet.

This helps them identify any peculiarities to watch for during grooming.

  1. For instance, if your pet shows aggression when its paws or nails are touched or clipped

  2. If the pet strongly dislikes water or being bathed

  3. The pet has not been desexed

Complete transparency from pet owners is essential before the initial grooming session, ensuring a more enjoyable experience for both the pets and the groomer by addressing any quirks in advance.

Talented and experienced groomers can manage situations more effectively when informed beforehand.

Therefore, it is crucial for pet owners to be upfront from the beginning.

Pet groomers work tirelessly for 8 to 12 hours each day. They only get a 5-10 minute break for a quick meal once or twice a day.

Therefore, when canceling or rescheduling an appointment, please remember that doing so an hour beforehand doesn't give your groomer the chance to fill the slot at the last minute. Please understand if penalty fees are necessary before they can accept your next appointment.

A little courtesy and respect greatly benefit both the pet owner and groomer, who are doing their best for you and your pets.
